Calendar of 2008 Events

(Items in red are organized by the Lone Star Section.)
Lone Star East Texas Campout (April 25-27)
Once again, we are invited for a weekend at Brooks and Rese Grimmels' Ark Ridge Ranch near Edom, Texas.

Weather permitting; the riding is quite pleasant in East Texas, the rural FM road thing. Weather not permitting, there are huge screened porches and inside living areas in the cottages where we can play cards or rebuild a Twin engine.

Breakfast and lunch can be had in Edom at one of the two restaurants there. On Saturdays and Sundays "The Shed" is East Texas' version of the Rock Store, a fun place to see and be seen amongst motorcycle nuts.

When you are not riding or eating or whatever, there are nature trails, a lake for fishing, and last year we had ATVs there to ride. You might see an alligator.

Dinner time Friday and Saturday night will be fun and easy. We'll bring groceries for chili, hamburgers, etc. so you don't need to bring grub unless you are a vegetarian or just real picky. Do bring your own liquid refreshments!

VOC Lone Stars and their spouses/significant others are the invited guests.

Vintage Motorcycle Days at Mid-Ohio (July 25-27)
VMD features a beautiful track in a wooded park setting, thousands of interesting bikes, a classic bike auction, vintage racing and a vast swap meet. A terrific scene. There is usually a good VOC contingent in attendance. Triumph is the featured marque this year.

North American VOC Rally (August 24-29)
Idaho Springs, Colorado. Click the link above for full details. It's going to be great! The HQ hotel is almost sold out, already. This one should be one of the classics. VOC members only.

It's not a Lone Star event, but since Colorado is Texas' back yard play ground, you ought to attend. As a bonus, for those wanting to put on the Ritz, there's also an automotive/ motorcycling concours show (not VOC sponsored, but Vincents are featured) in Colorado Springs immediately after the rally, and it's mentioned in Peter Allen's correspondence. Those attending should have a large time!

Vincents at the Harvest (October 24-26)
Kerrville, TX. Inn of the Hills, 1001 Junction Hwy., Kerrville, TX 78028. (830) 895-5000.

By popular request, we've lined up our fun with the annual "Harvest Classic."

Although the Classic is in Luckenbach, Fredericksburg is not a good option for overnight as they are also having their annual "Food and Wine" convention there, and rooms are sky high and restaurants will be a mess! Besides, we can have a fun ride up to Luckenbach, and roar in en masse on our snarling beasts!

I am assuming this year will be like last, you can pay $10.00/person "at the door" to get a day pass on Saturday at the Classic. Or, you can pay more and camp and eat the big buffet that night. You can commute, you can camp, or you can stay at The Inn. Your choice.

This will be our annual Section general meeting venue. No silent auction at this one, as we will have likely already bought/sold all we could at the NA Rally in August.

Remember, non-events involve no fees, you pay your own way, bring your own beverages. We may or may not take donations for any snacks or group grub. You're on your own with riding and really everything, and there because you choose to be! We just provide the time and place for Vincent people to get together.

Recap of Selected Previous Events

Fredricksburg in the Fall (October 12-14, 2007)
This venue offered great riding in The Texas Hill Country, plus SHOPPING for the ladies! HQ Hotel was Fredericksburg Inn and Suites

We reserved are meeting room behind the pool for both nights and the huge grill for Friday. The rally was a great success - here are some pics. After much solemn deliberation, Bev was elected to another term as Section Organizer despite a strong campaign from Wiley. Deb will assume the treasurer's role.

Lone Star VOC Granbury Rally (May 5-7, 2006)
This was the inaugural "North Texas" rally, staged in the pleasant town of Granbury. We had a good turnout, and managed to dodge the rain during Saturday's ride on the scenic farm roads nearby. The silent auction drew spirited bidding, and a good time was had by all.

Lone Star VOC Austin Motel Weekend (May 2-4, 2003)
Once again we descended on the always-funky Austin Motel, nestled in Austin's historic red light district, for serious Vincent riding, drinking, eating and music. Friday night dinner was at Threadgills, and the Saturday ride drew nine Vincents for a 200-mile spin through the fabulous Hill and Lake Country surrounding Austin. Click the title above for photos.

North American Vincent Owners Club Rally (October 13-17, 2002)
The North American Vincent Rally was hosted this year by our own Lone Star Section! Based in Kerrville, in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, it included a a ride to Big Bend National Park and the Davis Mountains. There were 120 attendees from US, Canada, Great Britain, Germany and the Netherlands. Nearly 40 Vincents were there, including Series A, B, C, D and J machines. Activities included a 270-mile ride through the scenic hill country, a trip to San Antonio and a demonstration of Marty Dickerson's Vincent on which he made drag-racing history. Marty himself joined us for Tuesday's fish fry and shared great stories of his racing experiences. Here are some photos of the week's events.

LSVOC Austin Motel and Roadrunners Show (June 2-4, 2000)
Derryl did a brilliant job once more putting together the Austin Motel weekend. Here's Allan's writeup with pictures.
