Turnout was light, but included George, Allan and John riding in on their Shadows. New member Tom from Utopia rode along on his other brand V-Twin. Paul and Johnnie arrived a little later with a Laverda on the truck. The weather was definitely iffy but turned out not to be a problem until Sunday at the Road Runners Show. After more than a few cold ones around the pool, the party moved to Threadgills. We had a great meal and hit the sack early to worry about the weather for the next day.

Saturday dawned threatening but dry. Breakfast at Guero's and then out on the ride. Derryl took us on a route along Onion Creek to Blanco where we stopped at the Hardscrabble Café for coffee, but discovered they also had a fine selection of exotic German beers and a beautiful waitress. We had no choice but to sample. Refreshed we headed on to Luchenbach for lunch. Still no rain. We drank the required Luchenbach ale and had a photo shoot of the three Vins with the old store in the background. We headed on to Fredericksburg for more German beer and desert. The ride back covered a different route but was spectacular, with local roads, stream crossings, longhorn cattle, and beautiful scenery. Everyone agreed that this was one on the best rides they had been on in a long time. The weather stayed fine and the bikes ran flawlessly.

Roadrunners rally: Derryl, Allan and John are grateful at a break in the rain.
Things did not go as well on Sunday. It rained on the way to Ski-Shores, stopped for a while, and then the bottom fell out for about an hour. George and Allan decided to get out between thunderstorms but Allan's shadow had guts full of water and refused to start in front of a couple of hundred onlookers. Finally we got it going and set out with it running intermittently on one pot. About the time it cleared and started to run well George ran out of gas on the 360 loop. We did finally make it home about 7pm and did not get rained on until the last mile.

John's Shadow won Best of Class trophy and narrowly missed Best of Show; George's Shadow won a second place trophy. Thanks again to Derryl for making it all happen.
