Series A Comet at Rally

Events

Here are events the Lone Star Section has organized, or plans to participate in. Contact the Section Organizer if you'd like to participate. Guests are welcome at selected events, as noted.

2009 Calendar

(Items in red are organized by the Lone Star Section.)
The 25th Annual All British and European Car Day (April 26)
Lots of great vintage cars, and motorcycles are also on show, although the numbers are not nearly as big as with the autos. The park is beautiful, a great setting for a show that's always well-attended.

Third Annual "Middle East" Event at the Ark (May 1-3)
Once again, we are invited for a weekend at Brooks and Rese Grimmels' Ark Ridge Ranch near Edom, Texas. There are 3 cottages on site, areas for camping / RV parking, and nearby motels. Vin has also offered space in his nearby house for overflow.

Weather permitting, the riding is quite pleasant in East Texas - the rural farm road thing. Weather not permitting, there are huge screened porches and inside living areas in the cottages where we can play cards or rebuild a Twin engine.

Dinner is planned for Friday & Saturday; breakfast and lunch can be had in Edom at one of the two restaurants there. On Saturdays and Sundays "The Shed" is East Texas' version of the Rock Store, a fun place to see and be seen amongst motorcycle nuts.

VOC Lone Stars and their spouses/significant others are the invited guests. Bev needs to hear from you in advance if you plan to attend.

Houston-Area Ride (May 22-24)
Ernesto is organizing a weekend ride near La Grange, Texas. Veterans of the BMOA rallies at New Ulm will recognize the area as first-rate. Participants will be staying at the Best Western Motel in La Grange; phone (979) 968-6800 for reservations. This is not an official Section event, so phone Ernesto for details at (713) 498-2089

Ozark Vintage Motorcycle Association Rally (June 12-14)
At Jim's suggestion, a number of Lone Stars are making the trek to Arkansas for this rally. It will be held at Spanker Creek Park near Bentonville Arkansas, in the heart of prime Ozark riding country. Lodging is up to each attendee; contact Bev for suggestions.

Vintage Motorcycle Days at Mid-Ohio (July 24-26)
VMD features a beautiful track in a wooded park setting, thousands of interesting bikes, a classic bike auction, vintage racing and a vast swap meet. A terrific scene. This is the event's 18th year, and there is usually a good VOC contingent in attendance. BSA is the featured marque this year.

Vincents at LBJ's (November 6-8)
Well, close to the LBJ ranch anyway - we'll be in Johnson City along the Pedernales river. Johnson City is right in the middle of all kinds of great riding and places to shop (lure for the spouses): Dripping Springs, Wimberly, Luckenbach and Fredericksburg are all minutes away.

The section's Annual General Meeting and elections will be held, and once again we'll have a silent auction.

Remember, non-events involve no fees, you pay your own way, bring your own beverages. We may or may not take donations for any snacks or group grub. You're on your own with riding and really everything, and there because you choose to be! We just provide the time and place for Vincent people to get together.

Recap of Some Previous Events

Fredricksburg in the Fall (October 12-14, 2007)
This venue offered great riding in The Texas Hill Country, plus SHOPPING for the ladies! HQ Hotel was Fredericksburg Inn and Suites

We reserved are meeting room behind the pool for both nights and the huge grill for Friday. The rally was a great success - here are some pics. After much solemn deliberation, Bev was elected to another term as Section Organizer despite a strong campaign from Wiley. Deb will assume the treasurer's role.

Lone Star VOC Granbury Rally (May 5-7, 2006)
This was the inaugural "North Texas" rally, staged in the pleasant town of Granbury. We had a good turnout, and managed to dodge the rain during Saturday's ride on the scenic farm roads nearby. The silent auction drew spirited bidding, and a good time was had by all.

Lone Star VOC Austin Motel Weekend (May 2-4, 2003)
Once again we descended on the always-funky Austin Motel, nestled in Austin's historic red light district, for serious Vincent riding, drinking, eating and music. Friday night dinner was at Threadgills, and the Saturday ride drew nine Vincents for a 200-mile spin through the fabulous Hill and Lake Country surrounding Austin. Click the title above for photos.

North American Vincent Owners Club Rally (October 13-17, 2002)
The North American Vincent Rally was hosted this year by our own Lone Star Section! Based in Kerrville, in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, it included a a ride to Big Bend National Park and the Davis Mountains. There were 120 attendees from US, Canada, Great Britain, Germany and the Netherlands. Nearly 40 Vincents were there, including Series A, B, C, D and J machines. Activities included a 270-mile ride through the scenic hill country, a trip to San Antonio and a demonstration of Marty Dickerson's Vincent on which he made drag-racing history. Marty himself joined us for Tuesday's fish fry and shared great stories of his racing experiences. Here are some photos of the week's events.

LSVOC Austin Motel and Roadrunners Show (June 2-4, 2000)
Derryl did a brilliant job once more putting together the Austin Motel weekend. Here's Allan's writeup with pictures.
